Another imperative step is increasing support systems for new mothers. Healthcare professionals, both during and after pregnancy, need to routinely screen women for mental health disorders, providing appropriate interventions and referrals for further support when necessary. This includes not only obstetricians and gynecologists but also pediatricians, as they play a vital role in the well-being of both the mother and child.

Furthermore, governments and healthcare organizations need to invest in accessible and affordable mental health services specifically tailored for new mothers. This should involve the integration of mental health care into the standard antenatal and postnatal care, ensuring that women have easy access to counseling and therapy. Support groups, both online and in-person, can serve as invaluable resources, connecting women with others who are navigating similar challenges.

Employers can also contribute to promoting maternal mental health by implementing policies that support work-life balance, offering flexible working hours, and providing assistance programs for employees transitioning into parenthood. These measures can help alleviate the stress often associated with returning to work after maternity leave, allowing women to prioritize their mental well-being without compromising their careers.

The invisible crisis of maternal mental health cannot be ignored any longer. It is time for society to recognize the struggles faced by new mothers, offer non-judgmental support, and provide accessible mental health services. By doing so, we can ensure the well-being of mothers, children, and families, ultimately strengthening the foundation upon which our societies function.
